3 - The right to a healthy environment

  • Tunisia's ratification of nearly all international conventions and protocols on environmental protection.

  • The establishment of appropriate structures: Ministry of the Environment and Land Use Planning, National Environmental Protection Agency, International Center for Environmental Technology, Agency for Coastal Protection and Development, and others.

  • The establishment of specific laws and national plans of action pertaining to: the maritime public domain; the prevention of maritime pollution; waste management; rural and urban sanitation; protection of the coast; conservation of biological diversity; prevention of desertification; prevention of industrial pollution; etc.

  • The establishment of incentives and financing mechanisms:

    • The Higher Presidential Prize for the protection of nature and the environment.
    • The fund for industrial pollution abatement.
    • Tax advantages, under the new code of investment incentives.

  • The establishment of mechanisms of observation and monitoring:

    • Tunisia's Agenda 21 and indicators for sustainable development.
    • Annual national report on the state of the environment.
